★★★ I’m not sure Josh Panetti would be the hero for me, but Midnight Treat is still a fun story. It kicks off with a bit of mistaken identity that sets the stage for an unexpected night of passion that changes Cassie Snow’s life forever. Both hero and heroine come into it jaded – to be honest I’m not exactly sure what Josh’s deal is. He’s vague about his past, or else his description of his previous relationships wasn’t as memorable for me as Cassie’s was. The overall premise is clever – we wait with baited-breath for Cassie to see the truth about what’s going on with her mystery man. Bonus points to author Becca Simone for making her almost-plus-sized. Josh goes from bad to good back to bad again, proving that when a hero reforms it isn’t always boring from there on out. Not everything he and Cassie did together was my cup of tea, but I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop. The way Cassie gets Josh back at the end is clever, an element of the story that slipped my mind and brings things together very nicely. The ending is short but satisfying.
