Review of April Cross’s Acquisition & Surrender

★★★ This spicy erotic romance gets off to an exciting start when the CEO of Ashford Holdings, Sebastian Ashford, summons employee Elise Hart to his office. Sebastian’s intriguing from the get-go, a take-charge alpha hero who owns the role of dominant and is ruled, surprisingly, by his gentle side. He’s easy to fall in love with, and, also surprisingly, has a great deal in common with heroine Elise, whose insecurity made this read a challenge. The story is a first-person account, all from Elise’s POV. Elise’s constant fears that Sebastian will lose interest in her are tedious. Elise does find her confidence, and her home, but it takes quite a while. Acquisition & Surrender is well-written, a thoughtfully paced character-driven novel and the sex scenes are excellent. I’d have preferred a stronger heroine, but Elise does finds herself, at the end of the story, in the very happy place where she belongs.
