Believe it or not, these exes do have chemistry, and I did get some enjoyment out of this movie. Actor Matt Cohen, who directed and starred as Agent Jake Reid, recently joined the cast of the Young and the Restless. Cohen, who’s very easy on the eyes, gets virtually no airtime on the show, so I figured I’d see what else he was working on and found this independent film, which just released, which Cohen’s been raving about on social media. Exes gets off to a rough start. I half questioned if Cohen had written it himself – look no further than his Instagram page to get an appreciation for his wacky sense of humor. At the very least, the part was custom written for him and I almost turned the movie off after the first ten minutes. Since I’d rented it, I decided to give it another try. It does get into a flow and these high strung divorced FBI agents begin to grow on you – there were laugh out loud moments, sexy moments, and moments I’d actually say were cute – yes, this is a romance, one you can appreciate if you can follow a complicated plot (I did my best), ignore some pretty cringeworthy moments (there are plenty of them) and find at least something to laugh at (Pretty much every line in the movie is a joke. I didn’t laugh at everything but some of it was very funny!) There are some fun surprises, fairly predictable ones but nevertheless, surprises, and if you make it to the end, you’re liable to find yourself rooting for Jake and “Megs” (Briana Buckmaster), who, in spite of their differences, make a really sweet couple.
